Q - What information and guidance is there for manufacturars of Coffee?
A - Green coffee imported into the USA should be held at all times under sanitary conditions to prevent contamination by insects, rats, and mice.
The following conditions class coffee as objectionable and subject to refusal of entry: coffee berries which are black, part black, moldy, water-damaged, insect-eaten or infested, brown ("sour"), "Quakers" (immature berries), shriveled, "sailors," or which contain foreign material, such as pods, sticks, stones, trash, and "sweepings" of spilled coffee in ships' holds and on docks. Contamination by ores and other poisonous materials in the cargo also has resulted in detention.
