Q - What information and guidance is there for manufacturars of Sweetened Condensed Milk Products?

A - Sweetened condensed milk, for which a standard of identity has been established in 21 CFR 131.120, must contain not less than 28% by weight of total milk solids and not less than eight% by weight of milk fat. Sweetened condensed skimmed milk (21 CFR 131.122) must contain not over 0.5% by weight of milk fat unless otherwise indicated and not less than 24% by weight of total milk solids. The quantity of nutritive carbohydrate sweeteners used in sweetened condensed milk products must be sufficient to prevent spoilage.
