What is Accupril used for?

Accupril is a medication that is used alone or with the medicine thiazide diuretics to treat high blood pressure. It is also used to treat congestive heart failure with water pills and with or without a medicine called digitalis.

Accupril, an ACE inhibitor, stops a chemical called angiotensin converting enzyme from working. Accupril helps keep arteries open and relaxed. Your blood pressure goes down when your arteries are open and relaxed.

Who should not take Accupril?

It should not be used in pregnancy. If you do become pregnant, make sure you tell your healthcare provider right away and stop taking the medication as soon as you can.It should not be used bym patients who have ever had an allergic reaction to it or any other ACE inhibitor.

What should I tell my health care provider?

Tell your health care provider if you:

  • Pregnant or suspect you may be.
  • if you have ever had angioedema.

What are some possible side effects of Accupril?

  • Headache
  • Feeling dizzy or faint, usually the first few days you are taking the medicine
  • Being tired
  • A cough
