The efficacy of buspirone HCl has been demonstrated in controlled clinical trials of outpatients whose diagnosis roughly corresponds to Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). A lot of of the patients enrolled in these studies also had coexisting depressive symptoms and buspirone HCl relieved anxiety in the presence of these coexisting depressive symptoms.
What side effects can this medication cause?
Although side effects from buspirone are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- drowsiness
- upset stomach
- vomiting
- constipation
- diarrhea
- stomach pain
- headache
- difficulty sleeping
- lightheadedness
- weakness
- numbness
- dry mouth
- depression
- excitement
- fatigue
- nervousness
If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
- skin rash
- itching
- fast or irregular heartbeat
- blurred vision
- unusual movements or the head or neck muscles

Buspirone is used to treat the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome. Talk to your doctor about the possible risks of using this drug for your condition. Buspirone is used for the treatment of nervousness and anxiety. Optimum results are usually seen after three to four weeks of treatment.
