What is Xanax XR used for?

Xanax XR is a prescription medicine for the treatment of patients with panic disorder who need to take Xanax on a daily basis

Special Warnings with Xanax XR:

Inform your doctor about any alcohol consumption and medicine you are taking now, including medicines you may buy without a prescription. Alcohol should usually not be used during treatment with Xanax XR. Inform your physician if you are pregnant, if you are planning to become pregnant, or if you become pregnant while you are taking this medication. Also inform your physician if you intend to nurse.

Benzodiazepines, even when used as recommended, may produce emotional and/or physical dependence .

What are some possible side effects of Xanax XR?

The most common side effect is sedation, but this often decreases or goes away in most people after their bodies get used to the drug. Other common side effects, which occur in fewer patients, include sleepiness, memory impairment, impaired speech, abnormal coordination and/or muscle action, and reduced sexual drive. Some patients may experience side effects associated with emotional and/or physical dependence on Xanax XR.

  • Inform your physician about any alcohol consumption and medicine you are currently taking, including medication you may buy without a prescription.
  • Xanax is not recommended for use in pregnancy.
  • Inform your physician if you are nursing.
  • Until you experience how the medication affects you, do not drive a car or operate dangerous machinery.
  • Do not increase the dose even if you think the medication isn't working, without consulting your physician.
  • Benzodiazepines, even when used as recommended , may produce emotional and/physical dependence.
  • Do not stop taking this medication abruptly or decrease the dose without consulting your physician, since discontinuation symptoms may occur.
