The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today has bowed down to big pharma yet again. It has approved another drug for another fake disease. It approved Lyrica (pregabalin), the first drug to treat fibromyalgia, a disorder characterized by pain, fatigue and sleep problems.
What a joke there is no real proof that this condition even exists, yet they have allowed a drug company to release a drug for it. Some say that this fibromyalgia marketing campaign is dangerous because it gives people a label to something that may just be a dietary imbalance. Lyrica they say, reduces pain and improves daily functions for some patients with fibromyalgia. But doesn't Asprin do the same thing? Is there really a need for another pain reliever?
"Today's new approval marks an important advance, and provides a reason for optimism for the many patients who will receive pain relief with Lyrica," said Steven Galson, M.D., M.P.H., director of FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. "However, consumers should understand that some patients did not experience benefit in clinical trials. We still have more progress to make for treatment of this disorder." Hmmm, so basially you coud take a few asprin and come up with better results. Good job FDA another one hit out of the ball park.
The Drug Companies marketing campaign has put the word out that Fibromyalgia affects about 3 million to 6 million people in the United States each year. The disorder mostly affects women and typically develops in early-to-middle adulthood. BULL!!!!
There is no test for the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. Doctors make a diagnosis by conducting a physical examination, looking at the symptoms (which mirror many other things), and ruling out other conditions. This right here should show how absurd it is to allow these drug companies to make drugs for something that may or may not be a real condition.
