FDA Puts Kids in dander Again

Two years after the October 2003 FDA health advisory about the risk of suicide in children taking a type of antidepressant doctors are still continuing to prescribe this stuff to kids. The fact that the FDA is even allowing this to be sold and marketed to kids should be a crime.

On May 2, 2007, The FDA again proposed new warnings about suicidal thinking and behavior in young adults who are on antidepressant medications. The proposed labeling would apply to the entire category of antidepressants and include and only go to show how the FDA will let the Drug Companies get away with murder.

The FDA has known about this for a long time and continues to turn a blind eye. Just look at some of there past bogus actions.

Parallel labeling changes in 2005: The proposed labeling update followed similar labeling changes made in 2005 that warned of a danger of suicidal thinking and behavior in kids and teens who use antidepressants. At that time, the FDA asked the drug companies to add a black box warning to the labeling of all antidepressants to describe this risk and to call attention to the need for appropriate monitoring and close observation, predominantly for younger people taking these medications. YET THEY STILL LET THEM PEDDLE THIS STUFF TO KIDS

A review of antidepressant trials: Also in 2005, FDA began a bogus review of 295 antidepressant trials that included over 77,000 adults with major depressive disorder, to study the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior in adults who are prescribed antidepressants.

Revising the product labeling: In December 2006, The FDA's Psychopharmacologic Drugs Advisory Committee agreed that labeling changes were needed to tell doctors about the heightened risk of suicidal thinking and behavior in young adults using antidepressants. The committee also boweed down to the drug companies and insisted that the product labeling reflect the apparent beneficial effect of antidepressants in older adults.

Will it ever end, Not until the FDA actually does what it was supposed to do. Hopefully one day they will watch out for the public instead of helping the Drug companies market there drugs.
